MALTA
MALTA (LMML/MLA)
The 3rd floor of the tower block between arrivals and departures has a dedicated viewing gallery, plus a restaurant, both with panoramic views of the runway and apron and are glass enclosed. From the viewing gallery, if you look to the left you will see the fence curving round to run parallel with the runway. This is another good place which you can reach by leaving the terminal, turning right, and walking past the car parks till you see a grassy mound with a path leading to a main road. Go along the road till you reach the airport fence and continue along on a wide pavement (separated from the road by a grass verge), which runs all the way to the runway threshold. Alternatively you can turn left when leaving the terminal and walk along till you come to another main road, which goes under the runway through a tunnel. Walk through the tunnel and take the first road to the left. Go along about 400 yards and you come to "The Spotter's Wall". This is a raised viewing platform looking over the fence at the runway, facing the terminal and apron. A bonus here is that you can find a shaded place to sit under the platform if the heat gets to you. About a hundred yards further along there is a road crossing to allow aircraft to enter the Medavia complex. Behind their fence you will find some interesting aircraft including four BAC 1-11s - 9L-LDJ and 9L-LDL ex British World and 5N-BBP and 5N-BBQ Albarka Air, and wingless DC-3 T9-ABC belonging to the Malta Aviation Museum.
